Thirteen years. That’s how long we’ve been waiting since GTA 5 dropped in 2013. Kids who were in middle school back then are paying rent now. And after two delays, a whole lot of memes and more trailer-breakdown videos than anybody can count, Grand Theft Auto VI is finally, actually, really almost here.
I still remember my first time playing GTA III and figuring out all the extra stuff you could do. That’s when I knew this franchise was different. You could pick up girls, take any car off the street and drive literally anywhere you wanted. Nothing else felt like that. GTA has earned its following, and even after a wait that went on way too long, we’re all still dying to play this one.
The game lands Thursday, November 19. That gives you a few weeks to get your money, your console and your schedule in order. Here’s everything you need to know before launch day.
When and Where You Can Play

GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That’s it. No PS4, no Xbox One, and no PC version on the official record yet.
PC players, we see you. Rockstar has followed this playbook before, launching on console first and bringing the PC version later. That’s how it went with GTA 5. So if your gaming rig is your whole personality, you’re probably waiting a little longer.
And if you’re still skeptical about the date after the last two delays, that’s fair. The game was first slated for fall 2025, then moved to May 2026, then pushed to November. But Rockstar’s site is still showing November 19, and the official launch trailer dropped October 15. This one looks locked.
What It Costs
The Standard Edition runs $79.99. The Ultimate Edition goes for $99.99 and comes with extra digital bonus content, including more cosmetics. Heads up, the Ultimate Edition is digital only through the PlayStation Store and Xbox store.
There’s no collector’s edition this time. No SteelBook, no map poster, no big box of merch. Rockstar kept it simple with just two options.

Our take? The Standard Edition is the move for most people. Unless you’re the type who needs every outfit on day one, save the twenty bucks for snacks.
Don’t Sleep on the Pre-Order Bonus
Anyone who buys the game before November 20 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack, no matter which edition you pick. Think throwback 1980s Miami style, including a weapon skin inspired by Tommy Vercetti’s iconic tropical shirt. If you played the original Vice City, that’s pure nostalgia.
Digital pre-orders also come with a free month of GTA+.
Preload Day Is Your Real Launch Day

This is the part people are going to mess up. Digital pre-orders can start preloading at local midnight on November 12, a full week before the game unlocks.
And here’s the twist. Buying the physical copy won’t save you from a download. The box holds a download code, not a disc with the game on it. Physical copies hit shelves November 12 too, so you can preload the same day.
Why does this matter? Rumors say the game could take up somewhere around 210GB on PS5. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed that number, so don’t panic buy anything yet. But it’s a good time to check your storage and start deleting the games you swore you’d finish.
Welcome to Leonida

GTA 6 takes place in the state of Leonida, Rockstar’s take on Florida, and yes, that means a return to a modern day Vice City. Think neon, beaches, swamps and the kind of chaos that only makes sense in a Florida Man headline.
For the first time in the series, you’ll play as a duo. Jason and Lucia are the leads, a criminal couple pulling off jobs together. It’s giving Bonnie and Clyde with better graphics.
What About GTA Online?
GTA Online kept GTA 5 alive for over a decade, so everybody wants to know what’s next. Right now there’s no official date for an online mode for GTA 6. Expect it to come after launch. In the meantime, the current GTA Online is still getting updates if you need something to hold you over.
Your Launch Survival Checklist
- Lock in your pre-order before November 20 to grab the Vintage Vice City Pack
- Clear space on your console now, not on November 18
- Set a reminder for preload on November 12
- Pick a lane, Standard or Ultimate, and don’t overthink it
- Request the day off, or at least warn your group chat you’re going missing
- Stay off social media launch week unless you want the story spoiled
The Bottom Line
This is the biggest video game release in years, maybe ever. Whether you’re a day one player or you’re waiting for the reviews, November 19 is going to be a moment.
So get your storage cleared, get your snacks ready and get your excuses for skipping work lined up. Leonida is calling.
We’ll be back with a full GamerGrades report card after launch week. Stay tuned.
